Heart disease is the number two killer In Hong Kong, with various forms claiming an average of 5,000 lives every year. Countless number of people have some form of heart disease and it's a condition which should not be underestimated or neglected.

Heart disease comes in many forms, including coronary heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease and congenital heart disease. Among all these types, the most common cause of death is coronary heart disease. In 2009, an average of 11.9 people died every day due to coronary heart disease.

Treatment

The treatment of heart disease typically involves surgery. It’s generally recognized that surgery is expensive and hospitalization can be lengthy during the rehabilitation phase, placing a serious burden on the patient.
